Prompt: Write a story about a time when you were in charge.

Essay:

In the dim light of dawn, amidst the chaos of a crumbling city, I found myself in charge of leading a group of survivors to safety. The air was thick with smoke, screams pierced through the night, and the ground trembled beneath our feet. Buildings, once symbols of human achievement, lay in ruins around us. It was a scene straight out of a nightmare, yet here I was, an unlikely leader in the midst of apocalypse.

Our journey began in the heart of the city, where the devastation was greatest. We were a diverse group, bound together by circumstance rather than choice: a teacher, a doctor, two engineers, and several children, all looking up to me for guidance. I had no experience in leadership, no knowledge of survival tactics, yet in their eyes, I saw a desperate plea for hope, a silent call to steer them away from this disaster.
