Essay:

The marketplace buzzed with life, a symphony of haggling voices, clinking coins, and the scent of roasted chestnuts mingling with exotic spices. Maya adjusted her headscarf, pulling it low over her face, and darted between the colorful stalls. Her heart raced as she clutched the parchment hidden beneath her tunic. Every shadow felt like an accusation, every glance a potential threat.

“Stop that girl!” The shout came from behind her, sharp and commanding. She froze for a split second, then bolted, weaving through the maze of merchants and onlookers. The guards were close—too close. She ducked into a fabric stall, snatching a draped shawl and wrapping it around her shoulders. The vendor protested, but she slipped him a coin before slipping away, her disguise transforming her into just another customer.
